Oh Christmas Tree

This is a little late, but my best friend Jackie shared on her blog her favorite Christmas ornaments… so I thought I’d share our tree and a few of my favorite ornaments. Our tree tells a story… where we’ve been, who we are, and what we love.

The tree Christmas tree Christmas morning

Cooper's 2009 ornament... I have very fond memories of playing with sidewalk chalk this last summer as I was quite pregant and we could be outside and I wouldn't have to chase him if he was coloring... Cooper LOVES to color!

Tess' 2009 ornament... baby shoes!

My dad made these two ornaments of pictures of the kids... very special

I got this ornament when I was teaching Sunday School. It is better in person, but you can kind of see the crosses, fish, hearts, etc. A reminder of God's love for us!

A pickle... you'll have to look up the tradition as I don't have enough room here, but if you know me, you know my love of pickles, so no tree of mine is complete with out a pickle or two or three or four or five... I think that is how many I have.

Tigger... This was one of the ornaments Missy and I had when we were growing up. Now my kids have it.

The pinecone that reminds me of my mom and her Christmas tree the memory of her parent's tree.

A Swedish horse... a reminder of so many traditions... old and new... and family

A bit blurry, but a black lab for the four-legged members of our family... Cierra, Cody, and Katie (who wasactually a yellow... I have yellowlabs on the tree, too).

Lady... Baby in Red

I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight

I've never seen you shine so bright

I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight

I've never seen you shine so bright you were amazing

And when you turned to me and smiled, It took my breath away

I have never had such a feeling
Such a feeling of complete and utter love, as I do tonight

The way you look tonight
I never will forget, the way you look tonight

The baby in red
The baby in red
The baby in red
My baby in red... I love you!

The Christmas card that almost was...

Trying to capture a family photo for a Christmas card can be challenging. Add two young kids and it is nearly impossible. This year I decided to not even attempt to add the dog… sorry Cierra.

Here are the outtakes…

"Look at the camera and smile"

Maybe some milk will help...

Or toys..

Not too bad, but Cooper has a pacifier and Tess isn't looking at the camera...

Cooper can we take the pacifier out??? Nope.

"Let me fix her dress."

"I think I've had enough. I'm seeing spots"

Almost, but Mommy had her eyes closed.

Where's Cooper??? Okay... enough... I give up...

The REAL Hull family photo...

So we went to the pro to have them done.

Even the pro has challenges...

"Yeah, right!"

"I don't think so!"

But in the end there were a few good ones...

Finally... This is as good as it gets!

Merry Christmas from the Hull family!

Blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Life continues to be a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I really can’t believe we are about a week away from Christmas. It really feels like it should October at the latest. I’m trying not to stress over the fact that I have almost nothing done. That’s not the real reason for the season. But I would like to get the Christmas tree finished. By the time I do it will be time to take it down. It is up and two of the four strings of lights are on, but that’s it. I’d like my children to be able to stand in awe of the lights and the pretty ornaments. I have very fond memories growing up about the Christmas tree. The years we would go and get a permit and hot chocolate and then head out to the Black Hills to find a tree. Maybe losing a mitten or two as they were used to mark a possible tree. The years we had two trees… the real tree downstairs that was mine and Missy's to decorate and the other tree upstairs in the living room. As the kids get older I really want to keep some traditions going and make some new ones. But for now I can’t do it all. I did get most of my Christmas cards out. I still have gifts to buy. I was hoping to make cookies or something for Tess and Cooper’s teachers, but….

The last month has gone fast! We were blessed to have my parents with us for Thanksgiving. Jackie and Kyle joined us for dinner, too. Our turkey turned out as did everything else. Mom and I made it out later on Black Friday giving people a chance to go home. We still found some good deals even after 10am. On Saturday Mom and Dad left Lacy in our care as they prepared to take Jacob, Logan, Missy, and Mike to Disney World. Cierra loved having the company and they both burned a lot of energy playing.

The second week of December we ended up with a real Minnesota storm. On Wednesday of that week, we were snowbound. Steve made it to work with the Jeep, but we didn’t think the van would make it through the snow as we had about 12 inches and it had drifted to about 16-18 in some areas. At 8am they had 41 snow plows out, but only 20% of the Rochester roads cleared. Cooper, Tess, and I stayed home just to be safe. It was fun to just stay home and cuddle. Cierra hasn’t appreciated the snow. She lifts her feet as they get cold. She also falls through the snow and can’t run as fast as she would like.

Cooper is doing great. He was using the door block to out deck door as his guitar and tugged at Papa’s heart. When Papa and Grandma came to get Lacy He brought Cooper a wooden guitar he made. Cooper’s favorite word has been “apple”. He loves apples. We are starting to hear more and more words from him. Last weekend he finally said “Mommy”!!! He melted my heart. We have been hearing “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy” for quite some time, but he wouldn’t say “Mommy”. He would point to me, but wouldn’t say it. As I say goodbye to him I always tell him I love him and have a good day. He has started to say, “Bye. Day”. I LOVE it! He is such a good kid!

Miss Tess is ever changing. I still can’t believe she is four months old now. She is trying to roll over and can get on her side pretty well, but hasn’t made it all the way over yet. Now that she is four months old we decided to give Tess her big Christmas present early. We got her a bouncer. At first I thought she was going to be too small for it, but we tried it and she seemed to love it. She has a ways to grow into it. There is a keyboard on it that lights up and plays music. She can hit it with her arm and make it work. Tess has been giggling more and my heart melts when she does it. It is just too cute.

We will plan to go to my mom and dad’s for Christmas. Hopefully the roads will be good. So far the 7-day forecast looks great!

Happy 4 months old, Miss Tess!

Tess and Mommy survived her well baby visit and shots. She is now 12 pounds, 5 ounces, and 24 inches long! Tess has found her voice and she loves to squeal at the top of her lungs! Miss Tess is full of smiles and giggles. Tess can hold her head up so well when she is sitting and on her tummy. Mommy isn’t quite ready to move her from the bassinet to the crib… but she still has a little room and she’s not rolling… yet.
